PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
One week left of Term 3! That seems to have crept up. We hope you can look back on the 10 weeks with pride in your children’s achievements. It was so good to welcome those of you who could make it to the Open Classrooms last week, I know how much it meant to our learners to share their progress.
Next week we look forward to welcoming our community to our annual Sausage Sizzle at 8:30am on Wednesday morning, followed by the whole school dance event. Everyone is welcome to wear their favourite sports colours. A coffee van will be on site. A big thank you to our School Association Committee for funding a new sound system which will make this occasion even better. Our School Association Committee are only able to support us like this because of all of you and the generous contributions that you make to our fundraising activities. Our recent Quiz Night raised in excess of $8000, thank you all so much.
As the end of Term approaches, we start to plan for 2026, please let us know as a matter of urgency if your child will not be returning to Montagu Bay next year. Our student numbers have a big impact on class structures.

Regards
Cathy Young

Kinder Blue
Watching Life Hatch in Kinder Blue
Over the past few weeks, Kinder Blue students have been excitedly watching a very special process unfold in our room—the hatching of baby chickens! From the quiet stillness of the eggs in the incubator to the first tiny “pips” and cheeps as the chicks broke through their shells, the children have been actively observing and asking thoughtful questions.
This hands-on experience has given the children a unique opportunity to connect with the natural world, learn about life cycles and take on roles as carers. Each day, students help provide fresh food and water, gently handle the chicks, and notice how quickly they grow and change.
Through this project, the children are engaging with many aspects of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF):
- Outcome 2: Children are connected with and contribute to their world – By learning to care for living things, the children develop empathy, responsibility, and an understanding of life cycles.
- Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners – The children’s curiosity has led to rich discussions, predictions, and observations. They are using skills such as questioning, problem-solving, and reflecting on change.
- Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators – Sharing their ideas, recording drawings of the chicks, and explaining their discoveries to each other strengthens both language and expression.
This real-life learning supports children’s growth across many developmental areas. We look forward to seeing how this experience inspires further conversations and play.

3-4 Blue
Students in 3/4B have been participating in a Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) inquiry unit. This inquiry unit has focused on the experience of Indigenous and Torres Strait Islanders and early British settlers.
We first began by unpacking the 40,000 years of Indigenous ownership and the sustainable practices they utilised. Students participated in a fabulous incursion led by NITA education and had the chance to practise some of their cultural traditions.
We have since shifted our focus to early British settlement and the impact on the environment and people. Students have completed several art pieces and written works to demonstrate their understanding. This included works focusing on the First Fleet, life of convict settlers and Indigenous art practices.

As part of our unit, students selected a famous early explorer to research. Students are working on presenting this information in an information report. Below are some of our completed works.

Here are some of the ‘highlights’ from our unit:
“Learning about the First Fleet’s arrival” Dylan, Theo W, Elijah
“Learning about the harsh conditions on the First Fleet” Keira, Harvey P, Darcy
“The arrival of Captain Cook, and his existence” Harvey E, Max, Lily, Theo R, Jack
“Prisoners being kept on boats because of overcrowding” Thomas
“The love tokens convicts made before transportation” Archie, Ken
“Learning about Aboriginal culture and traditions” Tillie, Gracie
“Finding out the Stolen Generations exist” Lottie
“There was more than just one explorer, there were heaps!” Ash
“Everything” – Ava, Rubi

School Association – Festival by the Bridge

Get ready for a fantastic afternoon at the Festival by the Bridge! The School Association is thrilled to announce that this community event will be held on Friday, 7th November, from 4 pm to 7 pm at the school grounds.
This popular event brings together students, families, and the wider Clarence community for a fun-filled evening of food, music, and activities. It's one of our most significant community events, with all proceeds supporting vital school projects and resources that directly benefit our students.
From the start of Term Four, classes will begin preparing their stalls. Class group details will be sent home this week, but over the holidays, we need your help! We'd love families to get involved by planting seedlings for our plant store, finding books for the book stall, sourcing jars for the 5-6’s lucky jar stall, or donating prizes for the chocolate wheel.
We hope you'll join us to make this year’s Festival a truly special celebration for our students and families. If you have any questions or have a business and are interested in getting involved, please don't hesitate to contact us at festivalbythebridge25@gmail.com. We'd love to hear from you!
